Didgeridoo (Atabatierra)

Details

The didgeridoo is a wind instrument discovered by the tribes of Arnhem, in northern Australia. The findings about the instrument were found in caves with cave paintings, where the painting of said instrument was found, dating back more than 10,000 years.

One of its particularities is that it can be played for an unlimited time using a technique called circular breathing, which consists of continuously maintaining a certain air pressure in the mouth, inhaling air through the nostrils.

Materiality and Measurements: Handcrafted by AtabaTierra®with agave wood, carved and polished with great care. Sealed inside and out with professional products, its mouthpiece is made of native Chilean wood.

The length can vary between 135cms to 140cms.

History: The Didgeridoo was first found in Arnhem, Australia. The origin of the word Didgeridoo is only known 100 years ago, but anthropologists believe that the word is more than 40,000 years old.

The Didgeridoo is also a sacred instrument, since the ancient inhabitants of Australia used it for rituals, such as asking their deities for protection, for rain or finding food, as well as for the cure of certain diseases.

The Didgeridoo is known as Yidaki, which, translated into Spanish, means “instrument of spiritual connection”.

Use: It is played as a soloist or as an accompaniment in songs and dances. Due to its rhythmic sound, it is usually used to keep time in group performances or music therapy. When playing it solo, it usually serves to reach deep states of meditation given the use of the instrument's own breathing.
